"Saint Nick Revisited."

'twas the night before Christmas and all across the farm
The animals were in clusters, trying to keep warm.
It had rained and it sleeted and I want you to know
People stayed home when they had places to go.
Then far in the distance we heard some bells ring
We knew it wasn't Easter 'twas too far from spring.
The wind was blowing the snow in a whirl
It wasn't fit weather for a skunk or a squirrel.
The bells were tinkling high pitched in sound,
first high in the air then next to the ground.
The bells were on eight reindeer so lively and quick
we knew it a moment it must be St. Nick
When the snow settled we all saw with a grin
It was really him by the hair on his chin.
He had a huge sleigh and a trailer to boot
That were full of toys some covered with soot.
He shouted, "Rest you reindeer you've earned the time
Air quality in town felt more like slime.
You've been working hard and loyalty you've showed
I'm sure the next trip will be our last load."
We all stood aghast and said not a word
All disbelieving what we just heard.
Then he snapped his whip to the left then the right
He called out their names as they went out of sight.
We didn't have to ask, we knew without fear
That Santa was coming same time next year.
